Keto Update – Troubleshooting

Well, I’m tanked. Recently I’ve been noticing that I don’t feel nearly as good as I did the first couple of months of keto. Some of the great benefits of keto seem to have slipped away. I’m not experiencing the buzz of energy that had me wanting to get off the couch more and go do stuff, my mental state isn’t as cheerful, I’m tired and cranky a lot. Additionally, the weight loss has been VERY slow. Things are off. I don’t know if it’s the exercise, the life circumstances, or the diet, but I am determined to figure it out.

There are a few things I know for sure:

1. I would rather be keto and feel great than run a marathon.

2. I have eaten too much sugar in the form of dark chocolate lately.

3. I’ve been using a food scale more consistently the last few days and I think I’ve been eating too much and suffering from carb-creep (slowly eating a bit too may carbs as you get more used to keto).

4. My life has been stressful lately, especially my son shipping off to Basic Training on Monday. It really wrecked me emotionally.

So…fixing it. Two parts to work on, exercise and diet.

This week I decided I was going to do something different with my running. Instead of running 6x per week and getting up to about 23 miles with lots of smaller runs, I am going to take more days off this week and run longer each time I get out there. I think I need the days off right now because I’m exhausted. If this doesn’t work, then it’s back to the drawing board.

Also, I’m going to go for 1 week at 20 carbs a day instead of 30 and do my best to make that TOTAL carbs, not net carbs.. In other words, very strict keto to get myself back on track and get off the chocolate. Also going to make sure I stick with 4oz or less of cheese per day.

We shall see how I feel this time next week.
