A Simple Alternative to Vacation Mode for Etsy Sellers

I've stressed out so much about Etsy orders when away from home, especially in the beginning.

I've been running my Etsy shop for over 3 years now and I have never used Vacation Mode. I am simply too afraid of losing SEO momentum. Although I know sellers that use vacation mode anytime they feel like it, I have chosen to remain open while on vacation because I want those sales!

In the past I've had other people on hand to pack orders for me, but now that I have NO teenagers in the house it's a little trickier. My simple solution is to change my shipping profile to show a ship time of 3-5 business days instead of 1-3. That is usually enough time for me to get home from a trip and get orders shipped.

Last week I was gone for 8 days and had 8 orders during that time. Three of those orders came in the weekend I left, so they all had to be shipped by the following Friday, when I was still gone. I paid for those shipping labels on Pirate Ship but then didn't actually pack them up and bring them to the post office until the following Monday.

The rest of the orders were still within their shipping time when I got back. I packed them up and sent them on their way, then went back into my Etsy settings and changed my shipping profile back to 1-3 days (which still allows me to ship only twice per week).

One other thing I did was change my Shop Announcement so the first line said "All orders places between April 17-April 25 will ship on April 26". You could also message every buyer as orders come in and make sure they saw that their order would ship on a certain date because you were away. More communication is never a bad thing!

What do you do when you go on vacation? Do you use Vacation Mode? If so, have you noticed a drop-off in orders when you return? I'd love to hear your experiences!
